Nothing tells the story of New York City and New Yorkers better than sidewalk trash. Particularly big trash—yes, like furniture—on the sidewalks. A soiled mattress covered in a pile of faded clothes. An old sofa holding loose change from Switzerland under its cushions. A set of bent crutches, carefully tied together and hung from a broken coat rack. We are what we throw away, and there is a compelling human story—and often a funny one—lying on every New York City sidewalk. Usually on its side.
