Long bar receipts tell the story of your long night, even if you can't.
In a time when concern for the environment is at the forefront of most New Yorkers minds, lives, and businesses, it seems silly that receipts are still a necessity in life. Like steam power and pay phones. Receipts are useless time wasters that should only be issued upon request. Of course, the reality from a business standpoint is probably not that easy, and Hnyc knows how valuable, and shocking, bar receipts can the morning after a night out. WTF?!
But this box of unused receipts on a wet NYC sidewalk tells a sadder story, especially because it was thrown out with the trash, in front of a closed down restaurant. These receipts represent the hopes and dreams of a restaurant owner and workers who thought they would be ringing up profits generated by legions of happy and returning customers. In a healthy economy, this is often not the case; in our current economy, the odds are even worse. Perhaps a nearby bar picked up this box for their own needs. For the sake of the environment, of course.
