Happy Thanksgiving!
At Hnyc, we’re thankful for the folks at Ready, Willing, and Able. Thank you, thank you, thank you for keeping our sidewalks safe and clean, making this the best city in the world. New Yorkers begin and end every day in the city on the sidewalks in front of their apartment buildings, and Ready, Willing, and Able ensures those steps are ones that make us proud of our city.

NYC Sidewalk Bucket Drummer
In a city where talent is everywhere, it is difficult for artists of any medium to be heard. So many of them take the to the streets.
If you can make a bunch of busy New Yorkers stop, look, and listen, then rest assured, you have something special.

From the Sidewalks of NYC to U.S. Veterans: Thank you.
A brief scene from the 2009 Veterans Day Parade in New York City. A cloudy Wednesday, cold and invigorating, with the chill of autumn in the air. Sad with the smell of change, of passing, but alive with remembrance, a sense of honor, and undying appreciation. U.S.A. all the way. Thank you veterans.
From our urban, cement sidewalks to the grassy roadsides of rural America, Hnyc honors all of those who served, suffered, and sacrificed it all. Below is a video from June 11, 2009, of SSgt. John Beale’s final return to his home state of Georgia. R.I.P. Soldier.

Union Square Elves
First it was weird Santas at Grand Central. Now it’s dancing elves at Union Square. Thanks to our readers we now know the weird Santas were promoting Augusten Burrough’s latest book, You Better Not Cry: Stories For Christmas.
Does anyone out there know the story behind the dancing elves? We’re guessing it’s not a promotional stunt for the book, The Elf of Union Square, written by Jan Carr.
The New York City holiday season is just getting started. Send in any hilarious pictures, videos, or NYC holiday stories and we’ll be sure to post them. Thanks!

2009 ING New York City Marathon
Only in New York City can you have the streets filled with thousands of drunken Halloween-goers and mere hours later filled with 40,000 health nut marathon runners. Awesome. And hilarious.
Congratulations to marathon winner Meb Keflezighi!
