Coat hangers are a total pain in the ass to throw away. This person just walked to the corner, and shoved them into this trash can. Nice.

Sometimes the trash can is the trash. That’s ironic — well, in an Alanis Morissette kind of way.

Dead roses protrude, as if determined to remain alive, from a New York City trash can on a steamy summer day. An empty whipped cream can, plastic water bottles, and white plastic bag containing a box of microwave popcorn add a compelling element to this ensemble.

This is a notable trash can ensemble due to the texture this plant provides as it not only interrupts the smooth sunlight, but also the circular context that all New York City trash cans share. Notice the crumpled brown napkin delicately perched on the rim. Nice touch by a random passing stranger.
Only problem is, we have no idea what type of plant that is. Any readers happen to know? It has a great skeletal, rigid appearance, which makes it different than most flowers.

Here at Hnyc, we like to think we’ve got the New York City trash can beat covered. It’s a niche category, and we feel like we do trash better than anybody, but apparently we missed this one: Lady GaGa in an NYC trash can.
Thanks to our reader, Lauren, who turned us on to this CocoPerez.com photo featuring the uber-creative pop star in one of our city’s most artistic mediums.

There is something about the beautiful spring weather that has a way of making you simultaneously both tired and invigorated – where one can equally go for a long run or lay down for a nap. I suggest taking the middle road and go drinking somewhere with an outdoor patio. I have a feeling whoever made this cat sign on Sixth Avenue isn’t afraid of a few outdoor drinks to celebrate the sun, either.

There has to be an interesting reason behind why someone would throw away a steering wheel lock. Perhaps they sold their car, or bought a new security system—or, maybe, somebody stole their car, and tossed the lock in the trash. In that case, I hope the owner finds it and asks for a refund.
