This sign on a lamppost in the Upper East Side doesn’t have much to say anymore. But this wasn’t always the case. With its cardboard backing, wire anchor, and plastic wrapping, someone had something to say. A message that is now just another voiceless echo along the changing sidewalks of NYC.

Sadly, people lose things all of the time — from beloved dogs and cockatiels to earrings and watches and mittens. And, apparently, rocks. As this flyer reads:
Lost: Two Rocks
One White and One Black,
Both with the letter “S” engraved on them.
If found, please return to P.S. 199′s office.
THANK YOU.
Hnyc likes this flyer. Sure whoever produced this flyer didn’t break out any elaborate marketing schemes to draw attention or differentiate it from competing flyers. But it is straightforward and uncluttered and polite (nice use of “please” and “THANK YOU”). Level placement. And decent use of tape — though with scotch tape this flyer won’t be up for long. Also, photos or pictures of some sort would have been helpful. Just how big are these rocks? The size of car tires or lug nuts? Regardless, if you do find rocks with an “S” engraved on them, chances are you’ve located the rocks these folks are looking for. So give them a call.
Flyer Rating: 5 out of 10 stars. *****
P.S. Upon further deliberation, Hnyc has noticed something peculiar about the messaging on this flyer. The term “Lost” seems as if it is a politically correct way to imply “Stolen”. I mean, really, who loses rocks? Nice touch. Always err on the side of caution and politeness.
Revised Flyer Rating: 6 out of 10 stars. ******

This flyer offering dog walking (and running!) services employs a unique approach to attracting attention: duct tape. Apparently, no, there isn’t any situation that can’t be improved with duct tape.
Though we always appreciate ingenuity here at Hnyc, the duct tape sign is a little tacky, and sloppily applied at the borders. Add that to unimaginative messaging and a bland black-and-white platform and we have to give this flyer 6 out 10 stars. ******

We’re somewhat experts at flyers here at Hnyc, and we give this one high marks for its clear messaging, use of colors and presentation — excellent use of clear tape and evenly hung. Also, taping the business card to the post below is most excellent. Nice work The Process Personalized Fitness people.

This flyer offering services to take care of an elderly person shows ambition and effort on the part of the person who wrote it, and conveys an endearing sense of sincerity. Hope this individual finds work.
