White Pigeon

August 25th, 2010

White feathers. Orange feet.

This white pigeon has just a touch of color in its tail on the colorful sidewalks of New York City. At least it is not sitting in a trash can.

One year ago today.

Sidewalk Doggie Treats

July 30th, 2010

Don't forget to brush

This gum ball machine is actually for doggie treats. Just another example of how canines are fast becoming the new human in a modern city. Liver Biscotti. Hmmm.

A Feast for the Feathered

July 14th, 2010

Pecking Order

Pigeons pig out on a hot and humid sidewalk.

Notice not one of them is actually eating. Looks like they’re trying to figure out exactly what to do with the banana peel.

It’s interesting to notice all the little dramas — even among pigeons — that play out on the sidewalks of New York City.

Perhaps this pigeon is potty trained.

This photo sent in today by a loyal reader depicts a live pigeon making itself comfortable in one of the city’s most dynamic, understated, and inspiring artistic canvasses.

Empty Pet Crate at Night

July 1st, 2010

Dog gone

Don’t worry. There isn’t an animal in this pet crate, but it does make one wonder what happened. Did the animal get lost? Did it die? If these people moved, wouldn’t they need to take the pet in the crate with them? It’s all a mystery. Another untold story from the sidewalk trash of New York City.

Any readers care to venture a scenario?

Cockatiel Found

June 1st, 2010

On a wing and a prayer. Let's hope this works out.

Any flyer that tries to reconnect a fellow New Yorker with their lost animal gets an automatic 10 stars from Hnyc.

Nice work, whoever you are.

HEY!

May 30th, 2010

This isn't blowing off anytime soon.

Dog walker/runner for hire

This flyer offering dog walking (and running!) services employs a unique approach to attracting attention: duct tape. Apparently, no, there isn’t any situation that can’t be improved with duct tape.

Though we always appreciate ingenuity here at Hnyc, the duct tape sign is a little tacky, and sloppily applied at the borders. Add that to unimaginative messaging and a bland black-and-white platform and we have to give this flyer 6 out 10 stars. ******
